Ms. Elita Lam

Head of Department of Fashion & Image Design

Hong Kong Design Institute

Elita Lam is currently the Head of Department of Fashion & Image Design (FID) at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) of Vocational Training Council (VTC), the largest Fashion Higher Diploma offering institute in Hong Kong with more than 600 students per year studying fashion related programmes.

Elita joined VTC in 2006 and has been serving different departments and operation units in VTC throughout the years. Prior to her headship in FID, she has been a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Design; an Associate Professor at the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) where she developed the Fashion Degree programme; and Manager of the External Affair Office leading the team of Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration.

In the last 2 years, Elita has developed, and since then, leads the HKDI Fashion Archive and the HKDI Centre of Innovative Material and Technology (CIMT), with outstanding achievements at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva and the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2018.

Her most recent project is the development of the HKDI Centre for Design Services and Solutions (CDSS), comprised of Big Data Analytics, E-Commerce, Design Incubation and Technology-Driven In-Store Experience. It is missioned to serve as a knowledge exchange hub for academics and retailers to synergize latest developments, innovative ideas, and best practices, with a vision to build business strategies and design solutions for future challenges while encouraging students to become young entrepreneurs throughout their study.  

Elita received a BSc (Hons) in Textile Design and Design Management in UMIST and a MPhil in PolyU. Her research interest is fashion design for smart living.
